God’s love toward us is manifested by giving us the best He has to give.
He gave Himself.

The Bible says, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16).
God’s immense caliber of love should inspire us to elevate the way we love Him.
But does it?
Even if our heart is so cold that we are not inspired by His love to love like He does, we should contemplate the repercussions of our choice to love less.
Why?
We are choosing the very rough path of direct disobedience — that is, to violate the “thou shalt not” of the Old Testament, and the “thou shall” of the New Testament.

The first two commandments God gave Moses were: “Thou shalt have no other gods before me. Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth” (Exodus 20:3-4).
Several thousand years later, Jesus said that the first and greatest command was, “Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind” (Matthew 22:37).
God’s command for us to love Him supremely isn’t made in the selfish vacuum of a dictator demanding allegiance.
It came with an immense cost to Himself.

Jesus death enabled us to love like He does.
He loved us to death.
