God is our best friend — and the closer our friendship is with Him, the less we desire anything that separates us from Him.
This thought came to me one evening when I started to watch a questionable movie — and almost immediately began to feel the grief of the Holy Spirit.
Yes, God is holy, and it didn’t take long for me to recognize that I couldn’t continue to fill my mind with something unholy and expect to simultaneously maintain a strong sense of His presence.
This wave of inner sadness sparked a realization that God’s friendship was more important to me than the cheap thrill of off-color entertainment.
The priceless value of my relationship with Him made it easy to change the channel.
Why?
There is an irreplaceable richness in knowing God.
The Bible says: “Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments and how inscrutable his ways! ‘For who has known the mind of the Lord, or who has been his counselor?’ ‘Or who has given a gift to him that he might be repaid?’ For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be glory forever. Amen” (Romans 11:33-36).
I couldn’t have described it any better.

God’s friendship is better than life.
The benefits of His friendship make it hard to walk away.
The more we know Him, the more we crave to know Him, and the more irreplaceable He becomes in our lives.
When we know God in a deep, personal way, we know everything we need to know.
