The president addresses a group of supporters at a packed rally on Thursday night in Bossier City, Louisiana.

He’s scheduled to speak just after 8 p.m. Eastern time.

The state election cycle for this year will close out on November 16.

That’s when Louisiana conservative Democrat incumbent John Bel Edwards faces a gubernatorial runoff against GOP businessman and gubernatorial nominee Eddie Rispone.

President Donald Trump is holding the event during a week in which House Democrats are holding their televised hearings in their efforts to impeach him, connected to a phone call he had with the president of Ukraine on July 25 of this year in which they claim he insisted on a quid pro quo regarding a probe into former Vice President Joe Biden in exchange for military aid.

The president has said no such thing happened and released the transcript of the call months ago now.

His focus has been corruption in Ukraine.

“Trump [is] hoping to turn the tide in Louisiana’s razor-thin race for governor,” noted USA Today on Thursday of the rally this evening.

The president thus far has not scheduled other rallies for the remainder of the year, though that could change.

“Trump retooled his campaign message this fall to focus on the impeachment investigation, which he has described as a ‘hoax,'” USA Today noted.

“The Bossier City, Louisiana, rally is the first time he will meet with supporters since public hearings in that inquiry began Wednesday.”
