Ruth Bader Ginsburg Is Hospitalized with Chills and Fever

Ruth Bader Ginsberg and the United States Supreme Court Justices

Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg was admitted to the hospital on Friday evening after she experienced chills and a fever, the U.S. Supreme Court said in a statement on Saturday night.

The justice, who is 86, is at Johns Hopkins Hospital after an initial evaluation at Sibley Memorial Hospital in Washington, D.C.

She was transferred to Johns Hopkins in Baltimore, Maryland, for more evaluation and treatment of any possible infection, the high court said in a press release.

Her symptoms now have abated, [1] Fox News reported, after she received intravenous antibiotics and fluids.

Ginsburg is expected to be released from the hospital as early as Sunday morning, according to the release.

The justice is a four-time cancer survivor.

This past August, Ginsburg was treated for pancreatic cancer.

Last fall, nearly two months before she underwent surgery to remove the cancerous nodules, the justice received treatment for three ribs she fractured during a fall in her office.

And in 2014, she underwent surgery to have a stent inserted [4] to open an obstructed artery in her heart.

During a talk at the Library of Congress 2019 National Book Festival in Washington, D.C. [5], this past summer, Ginsburg she made a point of saying that — rather than dwell on the “aches and pains” she’s been suffering in recent years — she instead concentrates “on the court’s work,” which she said has kept her going through a variety of ailments.
