Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) on Monday took a stand for legalizing marijuana — but even went a step further, saying drug consumption, in general, should be decriminalized.

The New York Democrat issued a statement on social media just hours after former Vice President Joe Biden — a top 2020 contender for the Democratic nomination at this point — said he wanted to see more research proving that pot isn’t a gateway drug.

Biden said at a town hall event over the weekend in Las Vegas that he would not, if elected president, legalize marijuana on a federal level.

“The truth of the matter is, there’s not nearly been enough evidence that has been acquired as to whether or not it is a gateway drug,” Biden said, according to Business Insider.

“It’s a debate, and I want a lot more before I legalize it nationally.”

“I want to make sure we know a lot more about the science behind it,” Biden added.

Ocasio-Cortez responded shortly thereafter — and the woman who thinks the world is going to end in 10 years due to global warming proved she had no interest in science or facts, as I see it.

“Marijuana should be legalized, and drug consumption should be decriminalized,” she stated on Monday.

“These are matters of public health.”

In a further exchange on Twitter, Ocasio-Cortez pushed a bill that would allow drug felons to receive public benefits such as food stamps.

“Drug felons are banned from accessing certain public benefits — like SNAP and TANF — for life, even after they’ve served their sentences. That’s a matter of public health as well cuz people gotta eat,” a public benefits lawyer wrote. “That ban should be repealed nationally.”

“You are correct!” AOC responded to that. “Luckily, I’ve introduced a bill that does just that.”

The resolution, introduced last week, currently has five Democrat co-sponsors, including fellow squad member Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.).

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s views on legalizing marijuana coincide with those of the man she has endorsed for president in 2020, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.).

Sanders proclaimed last month he would decriminalize marijuana through an executive order within the first 100 days of his presidency.

“It is time to admit the criminalization of marijuana was a disaster, especially for communities of color, and allow those most impacted to move forward with their lives,” he said.

“Our job now is to legalize marijuana and vacate and expunge past marijuana convictions.”

Previously, Ocasio-Cortez had said she was perfectly fine if a sitting president wanted to smoke dope.

“I don’t care. Yeah. I don’t care. It’s fine with me. You’re not hurting anybody, you know?” she said when asked about a person sitting in the Oval Office smoking weed, as shown in the TMZ video above.

“There are plenty of people who drink, they’ll go out to happy hour … How is that different from anything else?”

Should make for an interesting presidency, in our opinion — when Sanders, who has vowed to have Ocasio-Cortez involved in his administration, perhaps even as a Cabinet member, gets that 3 a.m. phone call during a crisis.
