During a heated conversation on ABC’s “The View” the other day, two of the co-hosts went at it as the panel discussed some contentious angles related to the House Intelligence Committee’s impeachment inquiry hearings held last week and the week before.
In particular, Meghan McCain tried to make the point, in so many words, that she appreciated the caution expressed by Rep. Will Hurd (R-Texas) — who said he did not hear any ironclad evidence showing that President Donald Trump committed any crimes and therefore could not vote to advance impeachment against the president.
Hurd, a moderate Republican who is not running for re-election, explained that impeachment is an extremely serious matter — and in order to actually push such an action against a sitting president, he would have to have seen far more evidence of any crime, which he says he did not see or hear during the proceedings.
Most of the other panelists jumped on Meghan McCain for citing Hurd’s comments — and for taking this line of reasoning.
Sunny Hostin, for her part, challenged McCain by saying that she “wanted to know” which hearings Rep. Hurd might have witnessed — because, she — Hostin — believes she clearly heard nine different witnesses testify to “crimes” committed by the president.

The co-hosts went at it quite intensely — until Hostin made her point, bringing audience applause.
That’s when Meghan McCain tried hard to get the rest of her thoughts in — then got jumped on.

Here’s Will Hurd’s quote in full that McCain was trying to reference: “An impeachable offense should be compelling, overwhelmingly clear and unambiguous, and it is not something to be rushed or taken lightly. I have not heard evidence proving the president committed bribery or extortion.”
“I also reject the notion that holding this view means supporting all of the foreign policy choices we have been hearing about over these last few weeks,” he said on the fifth day of the publicized House Intelligence hearings.
