‘Humility Produces Far Greater Results Than Naked Ambition’

I’ve always been very ambitious.

Yet I’ve lately been asking myself whether my greatest accomplishments even matter.

When I think about the colossal amount of time I’ve spent on a few of the most ambitious projects in my life — my education, building a law practice, constructing multiple offices and a home — I wonder if my ambitions were misplaced.

Was the monumental effort, expenditure of time and resources all worth it?

I confess that for most of my life, my ambitions were for worldly reasons: my own honor, security, self-satisfaction.

But here, at the other end of “success,” I’ve concluded that all my efforts didn’t satisfy me.

That is, until God became the most important part of my life.

As God commandeered these accomplishments for His glory, His wisdom, power and love have worked through them to produce eternal blessings.

And you know what? I’ve never been more satisfied.

This full satisfaction comes when we take ourselves out of the equation and learn to humbly allow God to control of our accomplishments.

I call it living with “God ambition.”

The Bible says: “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves…In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness” (Philipians 2‬:3, 5-7‬). ‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬

Jesus never used His position of being equal with God for His own worldly advantage.

Otherwise, things would have gone much differently for all of us sinners.

He used His position of immeasurable power to humble Himself, and in doing so, He triumphed over the forces of evil, death and hell.

The magnificent gift of salvation was the result of the profound humility of Jesus.

Humility is not weakness; it is power under the control of Almighty God.

Humility produces far greater results than naked ambition.

Humility engages the power of God.
