‘Hold Fast to God’s Love for His Protection and Care’

When we hold fast to God as the Almighty whom we love most in our lives, we experience living under His protection and care.

The Bible says, “He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty” (Psalms‬ ‭91:1‬).

Who abides in the shelter of God?

The Psalmist gives us a beautiful description of who is blessed to dwell in God’s protection: “Because he holds fast to me in love, I will deliver him; I will protect him, because he knows my name. When he calls to me, I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will rescue him and honor him. With long life I will satisfy him and show him my salvation” (‭‭Psalms‬ ‭91:14-16‬).

When we hold fast to God in love, that means we are clinging to Him tightly because He is what is most precious to us.

Does this describe the way you hold onto God?

This question is most honestly answered by looking at where we spend the majority of our time and money.

I will confess that I tend to be mostly wrapped up in my livelihood and goals — like diet, exercise, friends, family, etc.

But, do these earthly things protect me, rescue me, satisfy me, and give me the freedom and salvation that Psalms 91 describes?

Perhaps they do to some degree, and on a very temporary basis — but not typically without also, to some degree, enslaving us.

God, He sets us free.

When we hold fast to God’s love, that means we love Him more than anything or anyone else and thus, we live in His peace, deliverance, protection, and wisdom.

Clinging to God’s love places us in the strong shelter of Heaven, which is the safest place we have on Earth.
