A common denominator for the human race is our search for pure love.

But the only way we experience it is by knowing God — who is love.

We want to be loved for who we are and no matter what we do; and we falsely believe another person (who needs love as badly as we do) can love us like this.

This is heartbreakingly sad and downright insane.

But we all do it.

Why?

We don’t know anything better than the imperfect love we’ve experienced our entire lives.

The Bible says “GOD is love” (1 John 4:8).

How do we know His love?

“Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God. So we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him” (‭‭1 John‬ ‭4:15-16‬).‬‬

When we have been born again, God’s Spirit resides within us and we are given the opportunity to “know and believe the love that God has for us.”

This is called “abiding in God,” which is synonymous with “abiding in love.”

If we desire pure love, we must desire God, who is love.

Otherwise, we will look for love our entire lives and we will always find something less than the best.

It was impossible for me to grasp this until I experienced the overwhelming love of God for myself.

I don’t want to live without out it.

However, sometimes I stray and commit crimes against God’s love and find myself eluding the experience of His love.

I need to be on guard for those love-forsaking habits.

If we want to live experiencing the pure love of God, we must seek to live holy.

There is no other way.

He loves us unconditionally — Jesus is proof — but His nature is holy.

The Bible teaches us how to live holy, so we can experience the purest love we will ever know.

When we abide in Christ, our love becomes more like His love — and we give and receive the most extraordinary love in the world.
