House Democrats are saying they’re planning to impeach President Donald Trump before Christmas of this year.

The last procedural vote in the House shows they have the numbers to do it.

But what happens after a so-called holiday impeachment?

They lose, that’s what — because Santa knows they’ve been naughty.

Some are wise to the Democrat place on the bad-kid list.

See this tweet, for example:

The House Intelligence Committee is set to hold the first open hearings of the impeachment inquiry next week, featuring public testimony from three key witnesses.

But many people confuse impeachment with removal from office.

It’s not. It’s an indictment that will bring about a trial in the Senate.

This trial has a jury that will decide the future of the Trump administration.

Let’s look at the makeup of the jury.

Currently the GOP holds 53 seats in the Senate; the Dems hold or control 45.

Two independent elves caucus with the Dems.

To remove Trump, it would take 67 votes.

So the Dem Grinch comes up short on a party-line vote.

Nevertheless, the Democrats are dreaming of impeachment in their stockings.

But there are Dems in red states — such as Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.), Sen. Doug Jones (D-Ala.) and Sen. Jon Tester (Mont.) — who desperately want a Red Ryder and may vote to acquit Trump or abstain.

Sen. Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona could also join that group.

So let’s say Trump picks up half. His total now is at 55 for acquittal.

But there are “misfit toy” Republicans who could go south on Trump.

Sens. Mitt Romney of Utah (of course), Ben Sasse of Nebraska, and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska are not sure bets for Trump.

Sen. Susan Collins of Maine could be counted there as well.

So let’s say Trump loses half.

We’re back to 53.

That’s 47 for removal — and also 20 short of making the grade to boot the president from the Oval Office.

And it is improbable that enough votes will change to affect the result.

The Democrats know this — and they know the American people may not be too thrilled to be put through this yuletide drama all for naught. They also know that Democrat senators in red states will pay a big price next year — or in two or four years — for a yes vote for conviction and removal.

Have yourself a very leftist impeachment! Their plan, thus, is likely to run against Trump as a “disgraced president” and hope that does the trick — or between now and the Senate trial, try to change the rules so that it would only take a simple majority of 51 learning-challenged senatorial reindeer to remove Trump from office.

Does the possible rules change sound outlandish and unconstitutional?

Ask yourself: Do little things to them like the Constitution or laws stop Dems? Haven’t they made it clear ever since January 2017 that they’ll stop at nothing to take their revenge on Trump and the Republicans for daring to beat them in an election they thought they had sewn up?

So watch for the Dem card up the sleeve of the ugly Christmas sweater in the next couple of months.

Without it, and with a vote following constitutional precedent in the Senate, assuming no other great changes come to play — they cannot win.

Ho, ho, ho.
