What are your greatest expectations?

Our greatest longings spring from whatever we think our soul is missing.

Perhaps we desire a relationship or children; or maybe, it’s the security of having enough money to retire.

Whatever puts a spring in our step as we anticipate possessing it, or crushes us if we imagine life without it — that is our greatest expectation.

But what does it look like when God is our greatest expectation?

The Psalmist wrote, “My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation is from him. He only is my rock and my salvation: he is my defence; I shall not be moved. In God is my salvation and my glory: the rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God. Trust in him at all times; ye people, pour out your heart before him: God is a refuge for us. Selah” (‭‭Psalms‬ ‭62:5-8‬).

In the morning, His presence is what we anticipate.

He is there.

There is no disappointment.

Throughout the day, He is the one we desire most, and He is our shepherd and we want for nothing (Psalms 23:1).

God’s presence molds our expectations to fulfill the eternal purpose He created for us before we were born.

Then, even in the most horrible circumstances, we can have peace because we never lose God’s presence.

He tenderly picks up the pieces, puts them back together, and makes us shine with the beauty He creates.

When God is our greatest expectation, we are never disappointed.
