Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah) — never, ever fully behind President Donald Trump, a member of the same party — took to Twitter on Friday to slam the president for calling on China and Ukraine to investigate former Vice President Joe Biden for his Ukraine-connected activities.
This came a day after Trump told reporters outside the White House that both those nations should look into Biden and his son, Hunter Biden, for actions they’ve taken in and connected to those countries that the president believes are corrupt.
“China should start an investigation into the Bidens,” Trump said on live television and as reported by many outlets on Thursday.
Romney, the Republican presidential candidate in 2012, fired back at Trump by calling this move “wrong and appalling.”
“When the only American citizen President Trump singles out for China’s investigation is his political opponent in the midst of the Democratic nomination process, it strains credulity to suggest that it is anything other than politically motivated,” Romney said in a statement that he also posted to Twitter.
“By all appearances, the president’s brazen and unprecedented appeal to China and to Ukraine to investigate Joe Biden is wrong and appalling,” he also said.

Trump, however, has firmly stood by his actions when it comes to the Bidens.
“As President I have an obligation to end CORRUPTION, even if that means requesting the help of a foreign country or countries. It is done all the time,” Trump tweeted on Friday.
“This has NOTHING to do with politics or a political campaign against the Bidens.”
“This does have to do with their corruption!”

Unfortunately for Romney, these tweets have quickly come back to bite him.
Conservatives have responded by bashing him for criticizing President Trump.

Today I’m reminded of how fortunate we are not to have Corker and Flake in the Senate. We only have to endure Romney’s self-righteous blather, and sometimes Sasse’s: https://t.co/SESA2QqiM1

Mitt Romney is a loser, just the same as Beto O'Rourke. He disappeared the last two weeks of his President campaign, he begs for Trumps endorsement which Trump gave, and now same as Mika and Joe, they run a shiv in Trumps back. These are some of the most disgusting people ever!!

Over the past few years, Romney has firmly established himself as one of the biggest Never-Trump Republicans in Congress.
It’s sad that this elected lawmaker has let his hatred for Trump consume him to the point where he’s turned on his own party — in the hopes of destroying a president who is doing so much good for the country.
