Failed 2016 presidential candidate Hillary Clinton just couldn’t help herself.

She had to respond in public after President Donald Trump mocked her on Twitter early on Tuesday when he “encouraged” her to run again for president in 2020.

Trump tweeted that Clinton — “the crooked one,” as he bluntly called her — could jump into the 2020 race if she explained her “high crimes and misdemeanors,” a clear reference to her unauthorized use of an email server to conduct official U.S. diplomatic business.

The email scandal that erupted in 2015 dogged Clinton throughout her 2016 campaign for the presidency. It prompted an FBI investigation that itself became the focus of multiple congressional probes. Subsequent reporting eventually revealed Clinton had sent and received more than 50,000 emails using the private server and private email addresses. When the government asked her for copies of the emails, she claimed an estimated 33,000 of them were personal — and did not turn them over to investigators.

“I think that Crooked Hillary Clinton should enter the race to try and steal it away from Uber-Left Elizabeth Warren,” Trump tweeted.

“Only one condition. The Crooked one must explain all of her high crimes and misdemeanors including how and why she deleted 33,000 emails AFTER getting ‘C’ Subpoena!”

Clinton fired back hours later by tweeting, “Don’t tempt me. Do your job.”

This isn’t the first time Trump and Clinton have sparred on social media about her possible run for the White House in 2020.

Back in March, after Clinton announced she would not run for president again, Trump took to Twitter to mock her.

“‘(Crooked) Hillary Clinton confirms she will not run in 2020, rules out a third bid for White House.’ Aw shucks, does that mean I won’t get to run against her again? She will be sorely missed!” Trump wrote at the time.

Clinton responded by sharing a gif from the movie “Mean Girls” — in which a character asks, “Why are you so obsessed with me?”

Ever since she lost the 2016 presidential election to Trump, Clinton has taken numerous public jabs at him.

During an appearance on ABC’s “The View” last week, Clinton even voiced her support for the House Democrats’ impeachment push against Trump, claiming that the president tried to “extort” Ukraine into investigating former Vice President Joe Biden.

“I do think that he knows that he’s an illegitimate president,” she also insisted on “The View.”

“And because of that, he’s very insecure about it. Look what he’s trying to do now. Part of the Ukraine scandal that is slowly coming to light is he’s trying to figure out how to say, ‘No, no, it wasn’t the Russians,’ even though our intelligence community and everyone who has looked at this [and] said, ‘Yeah, it was the Russians.’”

“He’s trying to say, ‘No, somehow it was Obama, Hillary, whoever.’”

Clinton has been such a vocal critic of Trump since even before he won the White House — so it’s understandable he would want to poke fun at her.

And while Clinton may be enjoying her own quick rejoinders to him on Twitter — her bitterness about her 2016 defeat is palpable even three years later and many people feel she should have moved on a long time ago by now.
