God is the foundation of all true love.

The Bible makes this unmistakably clear for us: “God is love” (1 John 4:8b).

And: God created us in His image (Genesis 1:27).

So we were created to love as He does.

Before we are born again — meaning that our Spirit is made alive through accepting the gift of salvation — we are only capable of loving with our body and soul.

But when our spirit is made alive through Christ, we engage the Holy Spirit — and then the love we experience and give to others is nothing short of cosmic.

Why are so many Christians not living in the remarkable experience of God’s love?

It’s simple.

We don’t know God.

The Bible says, “Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love” (1 John‬ ‭4:8‬).

We get to know God when we pursue Him as the greatest passion of our life. We do everything to possess Him and we want Him to captivate every part of who we are and what we do. We’re in love with Him. The more we love Him, the more we want to do what He said.

Jesus said that if we loved Him we would keep His commandments (John 14:15).

Furthermore, when we know God, His commands are not grievous to us because we know His love (1 John 5:3).
