In the latest low-rent commentary from a singer who last sang a catchy tune, oh, maybe during the Nixon administration, Bette Midler let us all know that — surprise, surprise — aging California celebrities hate President Donald Trump.
Regarding Trump’s apparently “heinous” act of speaking to two female U.S. astronauts who are currently in space, Midler opined this weekend, “They also made history by being the first women to speak to Trump at a distance that was probably pretty safe.”
No doubt after approving that scintillating rebuke, she signaled a thumbs-up to the centenarian jokester who wrote the jibe.
The two American women, flight engineer Christina Koch and flight engineer Anne McClain, took part in the first all-women spacewalk in more than five decades of spacewalking.
The walk lasted seven hours and 17 minutes.
And during that outing, Trump congratulated them during a brief call from the White House — which Midler used to launch her anti-Trump attack.
Here’s Midler’s dig as she wrote it on Twitter:
Yesterday, Trump spoke to two female American astronauts while they were in space. Not only did they make history being the first crew to perform an all-woman spacewalk, they also made history by being the first women to speak to Trump at a distance that was probably pretty safe.

This isn’t the first time, however, that Midler has lectured other mortals on politics.
She’s claimed Trump uses black men as paid shills at his rallies — and yes, she wants to shut down his Twitter account.
Apparently Midler was perusing sheet music during the high school civics class on the First Amendment.
As such, she gets pushback from other celebs who can competently put together a cogent thought.
Norm MacDonald, as noted in Hot Air, took Midler to task when she went after a conservative model who dared to defend the president against sexual harassment charges: “Bette, if you haven’t heard, #metoo has nothing to do with due process.”
On the shill accusation, actress Kirstie Alley responded, “We get it, Bette, you hate Trump.”
And Trump supporter and popular singer Joy Villa tweeted this rejoinder to Midler’s recent tweet on the astronauts: “Why can’t you just celebrate these brilliant, wonderful women’s accomplishments without insulting the president [who is] honoring them? It’s people like you that drag this great nation backwards.”
Why can’t you just celebrate these brilliant, wonderful women’s accomplishments without insulting the President honoring them?
It’s people like you that drag this great county backwards.

Midler is an example of the larger disease among certain Hollywood types: They’re so far out of touch that they believe the few fans they still have left care a whit about their political views.
Most of us are interested in singers, actors, performers and others for factors not pertaining to their ideologies — but in how much entertainment they can and do provide on a regular basis.
As for the glitterati’s dazzling analysis of current affairs? Medieval society had it right when, after the performance was over, the jesters and actors who put on a show during dinner were banished to the kitchen to grab whatever scraps they could from the scullery staff.
Perhaps some of them deserve a little more respect today. But only for their talent.
