Former Rep. Beto O’Rourke (D-Texas) claims that under his potential presidency, Americans who don’t comply with his gun control policies — including confiscation — will face “consequences” from law enforcement.

O’Rourke made the comments during Tuesday evening’s Democratic debate in Ohio — then reiterated the essence of it during an interview with “Morning Joe” host Joe Scarborough on Wednesday.

CNN’s Anderson Cooper had asked the Texas Democrat how he envisioned his plan would play out to implement mandatory buybacks of firearms he deems dangerous and unnecessary.

He responded by suggesting everybody would simply follow the law.

“I expect my fellow Americans to follow the law, the same way we enforce any provision, any law, that we have right now. We don’t go door to door to do anything to enforce the law,” O’Rourke said.

“I expect Republicans, Democrats, gun owners, non-gun owners alike, to follow the law,” he added.

There’s a lot to unpack there.

First, why non-gun owners would follow a gun buyback program is anybody’s guess and probably only make sense in Beto’s mind, in our view.

Second, you simply expect criminals, who likely obtained their weapons illegally, to hand them over simply because some goofy liberal told them to do so?

Good luck with that.

Cooper pressed O’Rourke on his naivety, questioning what the Democrat planned to do for those Americans who refuse to abandon their Second Amendment right to bear arms.

O’Rourke suggested there’d be “consequences” from law enforcement.

“If someone does not turn [in] an AR-15 or an AK-47, one of these weapons of war, or brings it out in public and brandishes it, in an attempt to intimidate … then that weapon will be taken from them. If they persist, there will be other consequences from law enforcement,” he insisted.

O’Rourke’s threats hold all of the law enforcement heft of the high school principal in “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.”

O’Rourke wants people to believe he’s a tough, no-nonsense man of action — when in reality we’ve all seen his live-streamed dental cleanings.

In a follow-up interview with Scarborough, O’Rourke — who just hours ago had said, “We don’t go door to door to do anything to enforce the law” — revealed he would, in fact, go door to door.

“Yeah, I think just as in any law that is not followed or flagrantly abused, there have to be consequences or else there is no respect for the law,” O’Rourke explained.

“So, you know, in that case, I think there would be a visit by law enforcement to recover that firearm and to make sure that it is purchased, bought back so that it cannot be potentially used against somebody else.”

Perhaps Texas State Rep. Briscoe Cain said it best when he told Beto, “I’ll give you my gun when you pry it from my cold, dead hands.”

O’Rourke’s flailing attempts to make himself relevant by latching onto the gun confiscation plan are netting him very little approval among the American people.

Thus far, the only praise he’s received for such a wild, anti-American stance against gun owners in this country has seemingly come from fellow Democrat, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.).

“Beto’s gun policy isn’t ‘picking a fight,'” she wrote. “It’s taking a stand.”

It’s time Beto took a seat and bowed out of his fantasyland bid for the White House.

No self-respecting, gun-owning Americans would ever allow the government to take away their rights, even with the hollow threat of “consequences” from these clowns, as we see it.
