Did you know that we all need saviors?
I never considered this idea until I was listening to a message by one of my favorite childhood pastors, Kenny Francis. He said, “We all need saviors.”
What does this mean?
Simply defined, a savior is someone who rescues us from danger — right?
Saviors come in all shapes and sizes. When we need saving from robbery, we call 911 so our savior in blue will rescue us.
When our country is under attack from an enemy nation, our saviors wear a different uniform.
If we shatter our leg in a car wreck, our saviors are the folks wearing scrubs in the operating room.

We don’t have any problem calling on these saviors in our time of desperate need, do we? And don’t we call upon these saviors because we are helpless?
I mean, if we’re on the operating table, do the doctors really want or need our help? I’m pretty sure they’d rather we stay sedated.
Or do law enforcement professionals really want someone else to get his or her own gun while they’re on the scene? Not likely.
If our need for various physical saviors is so easily understood, why are we so quick to reject the idea that we need the Savior of the World to rescue us from spiritual death?
Perhaps it’s because we don’t recognize our helplessness. Maybe we think that because our body is alive, everything is OK.
It’s not OK.
Until Christ gives us eternal life, we are spiritually dead.
And dead people cannot help themselves, right?

That’s why we need the Savior.
The Bible says, “God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved” (Ephesians 2:4-5).
Jesus gives us spiritual life and there is not a thing we can do to earn it; otherwise it wouldn’t really be a gift, would it?
How beautiful God’s promises are toward us: “In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace, which he lavished upon us” (Ephesians 1:7-8a).
We have a Savior who loves us so much that He paid the ultimate sacrifice so that we might live.
We can trust Our Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ.
