At a ceremony at the White House on Monday morning, President Donald Trump honored the officers and civilians who came to the aid of their fellow citizens during two horrific mass shootings that occurred in this country recently  — in Dayton, Ohio, on Aug. 4, 2019, and in El Paso, Texas, on Aug. 3, 2019.

The event took place in the East Room of the White House.

“In the darkest moments of danger and despair, God calls the bravest to action,” the president said in part during his remarks on Monday.

“We are overwhelmed by their example … inspired by the goodness of their hearts.”

“Thank you and God bless you all — thank you very much. Incredible,” the president said.

Attorney General Bill Barr kicked off the ceremony with his remarks; the president then took the podium.
