For 18 long years, the U.S. government has had forces in Afghanistan to attempt to secure some modicum of peace in this region.

What will it take to establish peace and safety, finally, in this war-torn part of the world?

I believe it’s the same solution that we also need to bring peace to our own nation.

How can those who have no peace within themselves ever be purveyors of lasting peace for anyone else?

Peace is fragile — and unless it is based on a foundation of truth, it will never last.

Jesus said, “I am the way and the truth and the life” (John‬ ‭14:6‬). Not only is Jesus the giver of truth, but He is the foundation for truth; thus, we need not worry about truth changing because He is “the same yesterday and today and forever” (Hebrews‬ ‭13:8‬)

When we know His Word and work it deep into our heart, the Bible says we have “great” peace.

“Great peace have those who love your law; nothing can make them stumble” (Psalms‬ ‭119:165‬).

Grounding our hearts and minds in the truth of God’s Word makes Him the unshakeable foundation and stalwart guardian of our peace.

Then His promise becomes very real and personal: “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus” (Philippians‬ ‭4:6-7‬).

What amazing comfort to know that we can possess peace so great we can’t wrap our minds around it.

When circumstances threaten to unravel our peace but we’ve made God our greatest refuge — He keeps us in peace so great that we can’t even make sense of it.

God’s secret to unshakeable peace is revealed to all in Isaiah: “You keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you. Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord God is an everlasting rock” (Isaiah 26:3-4).
