Speaking on Tuesday morning during an interview on Fox News Channel’s “America’s Newsroom,” former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani — and currently a lawyer for President Donald Trump — said that there’s “absolutely no excuse” for what happened, apparently, to financier and convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein in his jail cell at the Manhattan Correctional Center (MCC) this past weekend.

“There’s absolutely no excuse for this. What happened [in that jail cell], to me, is mind-boggling,” he said.

“It’s a relatively small facility,” he noted. “This isn’t Rikers Island, which [has], you know, [some] 15,000 people and [is] virtually a city with many, many different buildings. Here, [it’s] one building. Almost everything is within view, if you want it to be, of the guards.”

“This argument over whether [Epstein] was on suicide watch or not is like silly because if he wasn’t on suicide watch, he should have been on watch. The guy was a high-risk prisoner, wasn’t he? … He’s a guy that — they’re probably 50 very important people that have a motive to kill him,” added Giuliani.

“We don’t even know who they are … We know there are some people that are in a lot of trouble because of Epstein. They know who they are. So there are people who have — there’s tremendous motive to [have something happen to him].”

Giuliani added that “prisoners don’t like him. He’s alleged to be, maybe, you know, the most notorious child predator of our generation. Prisoners are strange. Perverts, they don’t like … Second, he’s a possible rat also. There [was] a lot of talk about him testifying. I believe you have to do that. That’s good for the government. They believe you’re a rat when you do it. So you’ve got three strong reasons why this man may be done in. He might commit suicide. He apparently attempted it or he was attacked. That threat still remained even after a week.”

“The attorney general gives me great confidence that there’s going to be one heck of an investigation.”

“I do not understand how anyone can explain not having [Epstein] under 24-hour surveillance or not checking the camera constantly,” Giuliani also said. “That leads to all the speculation that we all are upset about.”

He noted that in terms of being on suicide watch or not, “You’re on suicide watch for as long as you have the conditions that indicate you might commit suicide. The conditions yesterday or the day before were no different on the day that he attempted suicide,” he added. “Meaning, he was in prison, he was looking at life in prison, he was looking at going from this prison to probably even more rigid conditions of confinement. A tough guy to go to a prison, right? You send this guy into a prison population, they’re going to — you know what’s going to happen to him, right?”

“Are they crazy? I mean, you’ve got to be nuts.”

In terms of whether he believes whether Epstein died by his own hand or not, Giuliani commented, “I have to step back and say, I don’t know what to believe [on that]. I think the attorney general gives me great confidence that there’s going to be one heck of an investigation.”

“That guy [Attorney General Bill Barr] is tough as nails,” he added. “And that’s the saving grace here, because this has to come all out.”

“Whatever it is, all the facts have to come out. Otherwise these conspiracy theories are going to run wild.”
