Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-Md.) feels that he is the man for the moment.
He’s referring to the tragedies that have taken place this past week in both El Paso, Texas, and Dayton, Ohio.
“God has called me to this moment. I did not ask for it,” he said in part.
“This invitation and this date was set a long time ago, two months ago as a matter of a fact, it just so happens that destiny has brought us to this moment,” he said.
“We must also stop the hateful, incendiary comments,” he said.
“We gotta do it.”
“Those in the highest levels of the government must stop invoking fear, using racist language and encouraging reprehensible behavior.”
“It only creates more division among us and severely limits our ability to work together for the common good.”
