Former Canadian Prime Minister Kim Campbell actually said on Thursday that she is “rooting” — yes, “rooting” — for Hurricane Dorian to make a “direct hit” on President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago club in Florida.
(Update: Campbell later apologized and took her tweet down. Also, the whole state of Florida may be impacted by this strengthening storm. Check out more at this link.)
Such is today’s overheated political environment and the thinking of many on the Left that such people can say such dreadful things with impunity.
Campbell tweeted that message to her followers on Thursday, in response to details someone else shared about Hurricane Dorian.
“Dorian poses peril through rain and wind in Puerto Rico and D.R. now, and a #majorhurricane threat to the East Coast this weekend,” the original message said.
Here’s her tweet in response:
I’m rooting for a direct hit on Mar a Lago! https://t.co/cA14KQvjpC

The storm, which weather officials and others say could become a Category 4 hurricane by the time it reaches the Florida coast, is likely to land in Melbourne, Florida — which is about 115 miles north of Trump’s Palm Beach resort, the Tampa Bay Times reported and The Hill also noted.
Campbell, who is 72, served less than five months as Canada’s prime minister in 1993.
She encountered intense backlash for the tweet, with many people calling her message “embarrassing” and “disgusting,” as Fox News reported.

But Campbell also pushed back on her detractors, as Fox News reported as well.
“As there are in Puerto Rico — sorry you don’t get snark — but Trump’s indifference to suffering is intolerable!” Campbell said to someone who pointed out that “real people” live and work in and around Mar-a-Lago.
“We’d also help if he tackled climate change, which is making hurricanes more destructive!” she also said. “Instead, he will remove limits on methane! Get a grip!”
She also tweeted this:
And no, I don’t wish anyone, anywhere, the horror of being hit by a Category 4 Hurricane. But not everyone can have the protection of a fortress like Mar a Lago, built to be hurricane-proof! Trump will not bear the cost of his immoral abdication of the climate challenge! https://t.co/yvSWZuuTLL
