New reports say former President Barack Obama tried desperately to talk former Vice President Joe Biden out of running for president for 2020 because he fears he’ll “damage his legacy.”

“You don’t have to do this, Joe, you really don’t,” Obama allegedly told Biden, according to a New York Times report.

The report added that Obama “took pains to cast his doubts about the campaign in personal terms.”

It also said that Obama warned staffers that whether Biden wins or loses, they need to make sure he does not “damage his legacy.”

Biden reportedly responded by saying he could not forgive himself if he turned down another chance to beat Donald Trump.

Obama has met with Biden multiple times, the Daily Mail reported, to discuss his run — even advising Biden about those he should hire for his team. The former president reportedly told Biden that he needs to hire more young people because his team was “too old” and “out of touch with the current political climate.”

During the 2016 election, Biden was “quietly pressured” by Obama not to run because the former president favored Hillary Clinton over him.

“I regret it every day,” Biden said of his decision to sit out that race, adding that it was “the right decision” for his family.

Fox News host Rachel Campos Duffy agreed that Obama did not want Biden to run.

“I think that Obama clearly never really wanted Biden to be running anyway,” Duffy said on “Fox & Friends” on Saturday morning. “I think he knows he’s a gaffe machine. I think he’s very afraid that Biden might damage his legacy.”

Duffy also said that Biden’s age seemed to affect him more than Trump was affected by his age.

“A lot of people are nervous that he’s [Biden] lost some of his mojo,” one major Democratic donor reportedly said.

“Donald Trump can outwork anyone and he’s, I think, the only president who actually starts to look younger in office,” she said.

Biden has slipped up numerous times in his campaign, making a series of humiliating mistakes. Biden recently told an audience of Asian and Hispanic voters that “poor kids are just as bright and just as talented as white kids,” as many outlets reported.

Two days later, he mistakenly said he had met with students from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, during his time as vice president — even though the shooting occurred over a year after Obama and Biden were out of office and while Trump was president.

“A lot of people are nervous that he’s lost some of his mojo,” said one major Democratic donor. “They’re getting nervous about him [Biden] going toe to toe with Trump. But the problem is, there doesn’t seem to be an alternative.”
