Nancy Pelosi Wants Senate Back Early from Recess to Work on Gun Control

House leader and Democrat from California says her own lawmakers are cutting their August vacation short to take up this issue — so why won't the other chamber?

Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) claims that House Democrats are cutting their August “vacation” short to return to D.C. to take up gun control — and she wants the Senate to do the same thing.

More gun control?

How depressing, in my view.

Why don’t these lawmakers have any concern for the top 10 destroyers in our society — such things as abortion, alcohol, tobacco, etc?

Their ideas for gun control are laboriously boring.

They keep demanding stricter gun control. Yet in cities and states that already have strict gun control, there is also more crime.

Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), the Republican Senate leader, said he isn’t calling senators back to session, but he will review possible bills for consideration when lawmakers return in September.

Forgive me, but I didn’t know Pelosi ran the Senate, too.

Perish the thought.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Friday that the country’s elected officials have a responsibility to “ensure domestic tranquility” and called on the Senate to return to work to vote on the House’s bill bolstering background checks for gun purchases.

In an interview with The Associated Press, Pelosi said she’s heard “grave concern” from Americans and members of Congress about gun violence and the rise of heated rhetoric, including xenophobia and white supremacy.

“The Senate has to do the job,” Pelosi said. “This is simple: They just have to take up the bill and send it to the president.”

Earlier this year, the Democrat-led House approved legislation bolstering background checks for gun purchases.

The Senate also saw a similar bipartisan bill; some senators say the action would deter the kinds of mass tragedies like those that occurred a few weeks ago.

The Democratic Party doesn’t seem to want to understand that law-abiding people are in control of their right to protect and defend themselves.

We need to make safe gun zones illegal — for they are.

If people could fire back if and when fired upon, things would end quickly, in my personal opinion.

And we need to stop illegal drugs from coming into the U.S. Many of these perpetrators are as high as a kite when they commit their hideous crimes against innocent people.
