After disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein apparently passed away by his own hand early on Saturday morning, the New York City medical examiner’s office announced that an autopsy was done on Sunday, as New York’s Daily News and other outlets reported.

The office said, however, that a conclusion is “pending further information at this time.”

Meanwhile, many people are continuing to share theories as to what may have happened to Epstein — a convicted pedophile — in his Manhattan jail cell.

He had been on suicide watch earlier after reportedly trying to take his own life at the end of July; but apparently he was removed from that watch just prior to his passing.

And now, reports on Monday indicate that the two jail guards who allegedly failed to monitor Epstein before he perished had been working “extreme” overtime shifts, The New York Post noted.

Over the weekend, two 2020 Democratic presidential candidates attracted attention for complaining about a retweet that President Donald Trump sent out about the matter.

“What he’s doing is dangerous. He [Trump] is giving light to conspiracy theorists and whipping people up to anger against different people in this country,” declared Sen. Cory Booker (D-N.J.) during an interview on CNN’s “State of the Union” program on Sunday morning.

“He is using the same tactics as the Russians to attack our democracy,” he also insisted.

And former Rep. Beto O’Rourke (D-Texas) said in a different interview on the same Sunday morning show that the retweet is another “example of Trump using his position to attack political enemies with unfounded conspiracy theories.”

“Trump is changing the conversations so we can’t focus on the real problems that he is part of,” O’Rourke complained, as Fox News noted about both candidates.

Ever since Epstein’s death was reported early on Saturday, however, many people have been speculating about the way in which Epstein might have passed.

Some suggest others were responsible — while more have speculated that “Epstein had information on [former President] Bill Clinton and now he’s dead,” as conservative commentator and comedian Terrence K. Williams suggested in part in a video tweet he sent out over the weekend.

It was that tweet that the president — as well as thousands of other people — retweeted.

Both the FBI and the Inspector General “are investigating” the Epstein matter, NBC News reported. And Attorney General William Barr said that Epstein’s death “raises serious questions” — among them, why wasn’t Epstein being watched 24/7 after he’d previously been found injured in his cell in what was believed to have been a suicide attempt?

As one individual posted on social media, summing up what many others have shared, “I will practice the 48-hour rule and wait for more info. But that said, something definitely stinks with this whole thing.”

Epstein, 66, was facing up to 45 years in jail on federal sex trafficking and conspiracy charges.

He had pleaded not guilty; he was awaiting trial next year.
