‘Cranky Bernie’ Was So Rude to Restaurant Workers, Owner Says He Won’t Vote for Him

Sour behavior by Vermont socialist and his team apparently left a very bad taste in one man's mouth

Once he hears about this troubling story, might President Donald Trump consider changing his nickname for 2020 Democratic candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) from “Crazy Bernie” to “Cranky Bernie”?

After he visited a popular and iconic San Fransisco eatery over the weekend, Bernie Sanders’ rude and cranky behavior left such a bad taste in the owner’s mouth that the man vowed to stop supporting him.

John Konstin, owner of John’s Grill, was shocked at the senator’s behavior.

He told Politico that Sanders — clearly there to just eat and not to engage in any political campaigning — nevertheless was “rude and cranky” and did not treat his staff well.

The restaurant is the legendary home of “The Maltese Falcon,” the 1930 book written by author Dashiell Hammett.

The fictional San Francisco-based private detective Sam Spade, played by Humphrey Bogart in the 1941 film of the same name, had lunch here at his favorite booth.

Sanders and some 15 members of his campaign team arrived for dinner — but Konstin said the candidate “didn’t want to shake hands, he didn’t want a picture. He wasn’t nice to any of the staff.’’

“It was all very nice, except for Cranky Bernie,” the owner said.

The sour experience left a lasting impression on Konstin: “He lost my vote.”

For whatever it’s worth, Sanders ordered lobster bisque, an heirloom tomato salad and a Diet Coke.

“Oh, and his wife reportedly apologized as the group was leaving the restaurant,” BizPacReview noted.
