The Justice Department’s inspector general (IG) has declared in a newly released report that former FBI Director James B. Comey violated FBI policies in his handling of memos that documented private conversations with President Donald Trump.

The watchdog office says that Comey broke FBI rules by giving a memo containing unclassified information to a friend — with instructions to that friend to share the contents with a reporter.

Comey previously oversaw a department of 35,000 employees.

The inspector general report released on Thursday said that Comey violated the bureau’s policies by “drafting, leaking and retaining memos documenting private discussions” with the president, as Fox News pointed out.

The watchdog also pointed out that Comey, by his actions, set a “dangerous example.”

The probe’s findings were forwarded to the DOJ — but that department has declined prosecution, as Fox News reported earlier this month.

But the report spotlighted Comey’s dubious decision-making in the final weeks of his tenure at the head of the nation’s top law enforcement agency.

“The 83-page document outlined a series of violations, including that [Comey] broke FBI policies and the bureau’s employment agreement ‘by providing one of the unclassified memos that contained official FBI information, including sensitive investigative information, to his friend with instructions for the friend to share the contents of the memo with a reporter,'” Fox News noted.
