Bill Maher, the host of “Real Time” on HBO, doubled down on Friday on his expressed desire for America’s economy to fall into a recession if that would help prevent a second term in the White House for President Donald Trump.

Maher told a group of guests on his show that any hardship that results for Americans would be “very worth” it, in his view.

“I’ve been saying for about two years that I hope we have a recession and people get mad at me,” said Maher.

What’s true is that Maher has been saying this for quite some time: In June of 2018, for example, he declared he was hoping for a “crashing economy” in America as a way to “get rid” of Trump.

While admitting more than a year ago that the economy under the president was good, Maher also pontificated that he knew the “bottom could fall out at some point.”

The man, of course, is “a multimillionaire who would likely be well insulated from [any] financial downturn,” as Fox News rightly pointed out in a piece about Maher’s most recent remarks.

“I’m just saying we can survive a recession,” Maher continued on Friday night.

“We’ve had 47 of them. We’ve had one every time there’s a Republican president!”

“They don’t last forever,” he went on. “You know what lasts forever? Wiping out species!”

Maher also said, “A recession would definitely knock him out of office.”

The host and his panel went on to slam the Trump administration’s announcement this past Monday that it would try to roll back protections for endangered species and allow for economic factors to be weighed before adding animals to the list, as The Hill noted.

Maher said that rollback is “what any evil villain would do.”

He then declared with a flourish, “Yes, a recession would be very worth getting rid of Donald Trump and these kinds of policies.”

As LifeZette pointed out when Maher made similar statements earlier, to actually dislike this commander-in-chief to the point that one hopes the economy crashes and that millions of people struggle to survive means this person needs to gain some very serious perspective.
