On Monday morning, after a weekend in which people floated all kinds of conspiracy notions about the passing of billionaire Jeffrey Epstein, U.S. Attorney General William Barr vowed that the Justice Department would continue with the investigation into sexual abuse and sex trafficking.

Barr’s pledge of accountability following Epstein’s apparent suicide on Saturday should reassure some people that heads could roll if Barr has his way.

He said the case against the disgraced financier was and is “very important” to him and to the Justice Department.

Epstein’s victims, however, won’t have their chance to stare him down in court.

Do you agree that protesting is acceptable, but rioting is not?

That is a fact of the case right now.

Over the weekend, Barr stated he was “appalled, and indeed, the whole department was, and frankly angry, to learn of the MCC’s failure to adequately secure this prisoner.”

Said Barr, “We are now learning of serious irregularities at [the Manhattan Correctional Center] facility that are deeply concerning and demand a thorough investigation.”

“We will get to the bottom of what happened, and there will be accountability,” Barr added.

“But let me assure you that this [sex-trafficking] case will continue on against anyone who was complicit with Epstein. Any co-conspirators should not rest easy. The victims deserve justice and they will get it.”

The DOJ released a statement over the weekend saying Epstein’s suspicious death “raises serious questions that must be answered.”

Every part of Epstein’s life, in my opinion, needs to be put under a microscope; we need to see where that leads.

If this whole mess just gets swept under the rug, we’ll know our criminal justice system is beyond repair.
