Yes, it’s completely outrageous.

And other lawmakers who have been to the border many times say they have never seen anything like what’s being described.

Yet progressive New York lawmaker Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) is claiming on Monday that U.S. border agents are forcing migrants to drink water out of toilets in order to survive — and to exist under other harsh and extreme conditions — while border patrol officers merely sit back and laugh at what’s going on.

“I see why CBP officers were being so physically & sexually threatening towards me,” the young lawmaker tweeted on Monday after leaving a U.S. Customs and Border Protection facility in Texas.

“Officers were keeping women in cells w/ no water & had told them to drink out of the toilets,” she said.

“This was them on their GOOD behavior in front of members of Congress.”

Here’s her tweet:

She repeated those stunning charges to members of the press while leaning out of a car window.

AOC was visiting various migrant detention centers along the southern border on Monday, along with other congressional Democrats. Their visits were taking place after reports emerged of poor conditions and repeated sexual assaults of the migrants, as the New York Post also noted.

“Now I’ve seen the inside of these facilities,” AOC tweeted to her followers. “It’s not just the kids. It’s everyone. People drinking out of toilets, officers laughing in front of members [of] Congress.”

She also claimed, as the Post noted, that she “forced” herself into a cell with a group of female migrants — and that she began speaking to them.

“One of them described their treatment at the hands of officers as ‘psychological warfare’ – waking them at odd hours for no reason, calling them [whores], etc.,” she said. “Tell me what about that is due to a ‘lack of funding’?”

A Customs and Border Patrol official denied AOC’s charges about people drinking water out of toilets.

“No one is drinking toilet water,” the official said. “They’re drinking potable water from the sink attached to the toilet. It’s what you would find in every municipal jail in the United States.”

Former Rep. Beto O’Rourke (D-Texas) also traveled to the border on Sunday — where he proceeded to campaign for the Democratic nomination for president in Mexico among migrants who are awaiting their court dates in the U.S.
