Over the weekend, the former occupant of the White House decided to toss in his two cents about a brewing controversy.

Never mind what should be presidential decorum — former chief executives usually hold off on criticism of their successors.

Yet Barack Obama decided to comment, via tweet, about President Donald Trump’s recent criticism of the four Democratic squad members who have banded together to criticize the president on a range of issues, including the process of detention for illegal immigrants at the southern border.

Those liberals want him impeached — and they’ve talked about it virtually relentlessly since they were elected to office in the 2018 fall midterms.

“I’ve always been proud of what this team accomplished during my administration,” Obama tweeted along with the link to an opinion piece written by former Obama staffers. The piece appeared in The Washington Post.

“But more than what we did, I’m proud of how they’re continuing to fight for an America that’s better.”

In the op-ed, the former Obama staffers — all African-Americans who served in the former administration — criticized the current president for suggesting that Reps. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.), Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.), Ayanna Pressley (D-Mass.) and Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.) should “go back” to the “crime-infested places from which they came” — and then see if they can come back here and make this country better.

They also object to Trump’s other attacks on other individuals for a whole variety of issues.

As patriotic Americans know, though, Trump loves this country and he’s worked tirelessly to make it better. He did not have to become president, after all.

Trump’s point about the squad was that, since those four are so hateful toward our country, perhaps they shouldn’t constantly criticize it.

They should work to make it a better place.

But many on the Left — rather than seeing the president’s challenge and callout for what it is — have chosen to be deeply offended and uprooted by those remarks.

They’ve tried to take it and use it as ammunition in their quest to boot Trump out of office.

Yet what exactly have they and others done for their own local districts lately?

This is partly why Trump has gone after Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-Md.) and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) lately.

He’s called them out for the vast problems in their own local districts — crime, homelessness, filth and more — and tried to redirect their attention toward fixing the problems there, rather than continuing to discuss or call for impeachment, or dwell on the Robert Mueller report and investigation, and on and on.

“There is truly nothing more un-American than calling on fellow citizens to leave our country — by citing their immigrant roots, or ancestry, or their unwillingness to sit in quiet obedience while democracy is being undermined,” the op-ed by the former Obama staffers also said.

The opinion piece also said, “We stand with [the] congresswomen … as well as all those currently under attack by President Trump, along with his supporters and his enablers, who feel deputized to decide who belongs here — and who does not … We refuse to sit idly by as racism, sexism, homophobia and xenophobia are wielded by the president and any elected official complicit in the poisoning of our democracy.”

Former first lady Michelle Obama went after Trump in her own way as well — here’s one of her recent comments: “What truly makes our country great is its diversity. I’ve seen that beauty in so many ways over the years. Whether we are born here or seek refuge here, there’s a place for us all. We must remember it’s not my America or your America. It’s our America.”

She also praised a Baltimore step dance team after Trump criticized Cummings and Baltimore for that city’s numerous problems.

Once again, rather than acknowledge the serious problems that exist and that need fixes, too many on the Left simply choose to deflect, attack, ignore, react.
