Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) has reportedly left her husband, Ahmed Hirsi, and moved into a penthouse apartment in a trendy Minneapolis neighborhood.

The separation comes as questions continue to swirl about Omar’s controversial marriages — a subject that’s garnered national attention and even commentary by the president of the United States.

The Daily Mail is reporting exclusively that the congresswoman and Hirsi, the father of her three children, “have split and are heading for their second divorce.”

Shocking development. Confronted by a Daily Mail reporter about the matter, Hirsi seemed surprised news had gotten out, responding, “‘Wow. I can’t comment on that. I’m sorry, I just can’t say anything.”

The news comes as several sources, including the left-leaning Minneapolis Star-Tribune, reported on documents and raised questions as to whether Omar previously married her own brother as a means to “skirt immigration laws.”

President Donald Trump called out the curious case, saying he had heard some stories but that it was up to others to investigate.

“There’s a lot of talk about the fact that she was married to her brother,” Trump told reporters. “I know nothing about it … I’m sure that somebody would be looking at that.”

Could this latest split be a result of the intense scrutiny about her marriage?

Omar reportedly engaged in a civil marriage with Ahmed Nur Said Elmi up until 2017, but she filed joint tax returns with Hirsi in 2014 and 2015.

Aside from the possible immigration fraud with a man who is allegedly her brother, the multiple filings appear to be a violation of state tax law.

Last month, a reporter asked Omar about the latest allegations, but she repeatedly refused to answer.

Earlier this week, Judicial Watch — the nonprofit government watchdog — filed a congressional ethics complaint against Omar, saying she must be investigated for “perjury, immigration fraud, marriage fraud, state and federal tax fraud, and federal student loan fraud.”

The freshman congresswoman’s legal issues, which includes a ruling by the Minnesota Campaign Finance and Public Disclosure Board that she repeatedly violated campaign finance law by using campaign funds to pay for personal expenses while serving on the state legislature, have left some community leaders viewing her with disgust.

“Obviously we are proud that a Somali-American has been elected — but we just think it is the wrong Somali-American,” one community leader said.
