British Ambassador to America Calls It Quits After His Anti-Trump Texts Were Leaked

Disparaging messages about the U.S. president did him in

United Kingdom’s Ambassador Sir Kim Darroch has resigned his post after leaked text messages disparaging President Donald Trump were put on display for the world to see.

Darroch had been under fire for his words — and now he’s been removed from his post.

Inside the leaked documents, Darroch called the Trump administration “diplomatically clumsy and inept,” and said he doubted it would become “substantially more normal.”

Darroch said in a released statement, “Although my posting is not due to end until the end of this year, I believe in the current circumstances the responsible course is to allow the appointment of a new ambassador … [This] has brought home to me the depth of friendship and close ties between our two countries.”

The now-former U.K. ambassador said he was “grateful to all those in the U.K. and the U.S. who have offered their support during this difficult few days.”

An announcement was made on “Fox and Friends” earlier Wednesday morning:

Considered to be one the U.K.’s most senior diplomats, Darroch referred to the president with several unflattering terms in cables dating back to 2017, including “inept” and “incompetent.” Among many incendiary remarks, Darroch said, “For a man who has risen to the highest office on the planet, President Trump radiates insecurity.”

On Tuesday, U.S. Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross abruptly canceled a long-planned meeting with Britain’s Secretary of State for International Trade Liam Fox because he knew that Darroch would be in attendance.

Though Ross had been on friendly terms with Darroch, the president had referred to him as a “very stupid guy” and “pompous fool” after learning of the content of Darroch’s leaked cables. Trump subsequently disinvited him from a Monday state dinner at the White House with the emir of Qatar.

In a letter from the British Foreign Office early Wednesday morning, Darroch said, “Since the leak of official documents from this Embassy there has been a great deal of speculation surrounding my position and the duration of my remaining term as ambassador. I want to put an end to that speculation. The current situation is making it impossible for me to carry out my role as I would like.” (source: The Washington Examiner)

The problem is not what the man said — but that his comments were allowed to become public, in my view.

Britain is making a mistake if it does not find the leaker and fire that individual. Its ambassadors are encouraged to be frank in their correspondence with the foreign office — and leaks will poison their relations with other countries as well.

It still amazes me that so-called highly educated individuals think Trump’s policies are inept. “College educated” means little in today’s world.

People in government are not the nation’s best and brightest anymore.

Attending a liberal arts university with a masters in understanding your inner emotion is worthless. People in government are not the nation’s best and brightest anymore. The evidence is how badly the world is messed up, in my view.

Real Americans don’t care what anyone from England thinks about our president.

We kind of demonstrated that in 1776 and 1812.
