It’s over — the idea of impeaching President Donald Trump, that is.

The House of Representatives on Wednesday voted to set aside a resolution by Rep. Al Green (D-Texas) to introduce articles of impeachment against Trump.

It’s the third time the Houston-area congressman tried to begin impeachment proceedings against the president — but lawmakers chose to table his resolution.

The vote was 332 to 95, with one lawmaker voting “present.”

It was the first time the Democratic-controlled House had weighed in on impeachment — and it’s an issue that has created a widening gap within the party.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and other top Democrats had “worried that the measure would force vulnerable swing-district lawmakers into peril ahead of the 2020 elections,” Fox News noted about the action.

“The bipartisan vote shelved any chance of bringing forth articles of impeachment against Trump in the near future,” the outlet also noted.

Trump tweeted afterward, “The United States House of Representatives has just overwhelmingly voted to kill the Resolution on Impeachment, 332-95-1. This is perhaps the most ridiculous and time consuming project I have ever had to work on,” he said in part.

Instead of moving forward with articles of impeachment, most Democrats have seemed to want to wait to see if a stronger case for removal could be developed that would win broader public support, as Fox News also pointed out.

Next week, of course, former special counsel Robert Mueller is scheduled to testify to Congress — so they’re keeping their eyes on that.

Recent polls have shown the majority of Americans are against impeachment.

Even if the House had approved articles of impeachment against the president, it is unlikely the GOP-run Senate would vote to remove Trump from office.

But none of that has stopped Pelosi on certain efforts against this president.

“With all due respect in the world for him [Rep. Green of Texas], we have six committees that are working on following the facts in terms of any abuse of power, obstruction of justice and the rest that the president may have engaged in,” the House speaker told members of the media during a press conference on Wednesday about the topic. “That is the serious path that we’re on.”

As one New York-based father of four — and a veteran — told LifeZette on this topic, “So this is where my tax money is going. Sad.” He added that veteran benefits were denied to him “because it’s not in their budget. Congress should take care of the American people first,” he noted.
