If ever there was something akin to shooting fish in a barrel, it’s this.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) had a meltdown response to the president after Trump used her own words to mock Democrats and their incessant push for impeachment.

Over the weekend, the young lawmaker from New York appeared on ABC’s “This Week,” spouting off about impeachment and insisting the decision to pursue that should not be political.

“Every day that passes, the pressure to impeach grows, and I think that it’s justifiable,” she said.

“I think that with the president now saying that he is willing to break the law to win re-election, that – that goes — that transcends partisanship. It transcends party lines, and this is now about the rule of law in the United States of America.”

Breaking the law (presumably referring to Trump’s comments on foreign opposition research) to win an election?

Wait until you meet Hillary Clinton, dear.

Trump reels her in. President Donald Trump quoted Ocasio-Cortez’s own statement that she believes the Democrats will lose in 2020 and added it is the only reason the resistance party even bothers to entertain the notion of impeachment.

There is no doubt Trump was aware the New York socialist would see this and respond with an incoherent Twitter meltdown.

And she didn’t disappoint.

Tosses her in a barrel. What’s remarkable is that Ocasio-Cortez began her response implying that she was calling the president’s bluff — when in reality he had already called hers.

“You may fool the rest of the country, but I’ll call your bluff any day of the week,” she said.

“Opening an impeachment inquiry is exactly what we must do when the president obstructs justice, advises witnesses to ignore legal subpoenas, & more.”

“Bye,” she concluded with all the conviction of a pre-teen.

There are a few things to tackle here, in our opinion.

One, the president was cleared of obstruction of justice by the Department of JUSTICE.

Two, the Democrat subpoena barrage is, as one former senior congressional investigative aide has described, “just a piece of paper.”

And three, Trump has noted he would go to the U.S. Supreme Court if need be to argue there were no “high crimes and misdemeanors,” likely a victory for the president resulting in the overturning of any House impeachment effort.

It’s clear Trump wants this argument among Democrats because the constant threat of impeachment will unify and fire up his supporters come 2020. And AOC took the bait.

Actual crimes? That said, who needs actual “high crimes and misdemeanors” when legal scholar Ocasio-Cortez is in the House?

This is, after all, the same woman who claimed Trump could be impeached for signing tax cuts into law and asking a citizenship question in the 2020 census.

Ocasio-Cortez has also hinted that she supports her colleague Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.) in the need to “impeach the mother******.”

This is the brightest mind the Democrats have to offer right now in Congress.  And the president just played her like a fiddle.
