Ocasio-Cortez Says She’s Working with Ted Cruz to Stop Lobbying by Former Lawmakers

The two of them want to see ex-representatives and senators barred from this activity

When I saw Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) claim that she was teaming up with Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) in an effort to stop Congress members from becoming lobbyists after they left, I was intrigued.

President Donald Trump told his supporters during the 2016 campaign that he was against lobbying — and that he was going to make sure that anyone who served in his administration would sign a declaration preventing that person from becoming a lobbyist when he or she left government work.

“President Donald Trump signed an Executive Order within his first days of office forbidding Executive Branch appointees from lobbying for five years after employment in the Administration,” according to OpenSecrets.org.

“The Order also forbids former registered lobbyists now working in the White House from participating in areas they had previously lobbied on for a period of two years.”

That order referred only to the executive branch, though.

Even though the pairing of AOC and Cruz was weird to Young Turks interviewer Emma Vigeland (shown above in the video), AOC claimed the meeting of the two camps is actually happening — and that they’re working in concert to ban former members of Congress from serving as lobbyists.

Said AOC, “I think it really shows what the true spirit of not being partisan is and that bipartisanship doesn’t mean, ‘Let’s come together to go to war and lower taxes on the rich.’ But bipartisanship means, ‘OK, I will swallow all of my distaste in this situation. Because we have found a common interest.'”

See the tweet from Cruz about it — and the AOC tweet he was responding to:

The Cruz and AOC teams met last week — and it could be highly possible she’s trying to drain the swamp, as Cruz is.

We shall see as we keep our eyes open for all the news and fresh developments.
