Broadway Play About the Clintons to Shutter Early Due to ‘Deplorable’ Ticket Sales
Show had been set to run through July 21, instead will conclude this weekend
A Broadway production based loosely on Hillary Clinton’s first failed presidential run back in 2008 is closing down a month early due to poor ticket sales.
The news doesn’t bode well for the former first lady and daughter Chelsea, who are expected to launch a film and television production company focused on women’s issues.
The Hollywood Reporter (THR) revealed that the early shutdown of “Hillary and Clinton” is specifically “due to underwhelming ticket sales.”
The show began in March and was scheduled to run through July 21 — but will instead have its final showing on Sunday, June 23.
“The play, which cost $4.2 million to produce, began performances in March and drew mixed-to-positive reviews, but has struggled to fill seats, reaching only 36 percent of its gross potential in the last two weeks,” THR reports.
“Its cumulative box office stands at $4.7 million.”
The total number of performances means the play was netting roughly $7,000 per show.

‘Characters.’ THR explains that the show “is not based on the real Clintons, but instead characters with the same names in an alternate reality.”
“Alternate reality”? That’s pretty much the Clinton family in a nutshell, in our view.
The play features Laurie Metcalf and John Lithgow in the leading roles, so it doesn’t exactly lack star power.
Metcalf recently admitted that President Donald Trump’s prospects of winning again in 2020 were giving her a panic attack.
“This is truly, truly upsetting and unsettling,” she told The New York Times’ Maureen Dowd, “and this low-grade panic attack I’ve been living under just went to orange. I had such high hopes of him being out of office before 2020.”
Well, it looks like once again Trump has outlasted something associated with Hillary.
Fatigue. Last November, the Clintons kicked off an international speaking tour by fielding questions from a Clinton Foundation donor in a half-empty hockey arena in Toronto.
One ticket was even selling for $6.55 in Canadian dollars, less than $5 in America.
Now a $4.2 million production associated with Hillary is going down in flames. It would appear a perpetually lying, two-time presidential election loser isn’t a big draw these days.
