The campaign staff of former Vice President Joe Biden, the leading 2020 Democratic candidate, had to update its ambitious climate change platform this week — which it released early on Tuesday — after complaints arose that the team plagiarized lines from at least five outside sources without giving proper credit to those sources for the information and ideas.

Biden also suffered plagiarism issues back during his 1988 presidential campaign.

Tweeting from Europe during his state visit to the U.K. this week — he’s currently headed for Ireland — President Donald Trump on Wednesday morning noted that this is a “big problem” for Biden.

“Plagiarism charge against Sleepy Joe Biden on his ridiculous Climate Change Plan is a big problem, but the corrupt media will save him,” the president said.

The Republican National Committee had something to say about Biden’s problematic campaign actions as well.

“This is not Joe Biden’s first brush with plagiarism,” said Steve Guest of the RNC on Twitter.

“During his 1988 campaign, Biden plagiarized campaign speeches from British Labour Party leader Neil Kinnock as well as [from] Robert Kennedy. During law school, Biden plagiarized, too.”

And Donald Trump Jr., a son of the president, shared this comment and more on the issue: “You mean he plagiarized it just like he did in law school and from speeches of other politicians that forced him to drop out of his 1988 run for president?”

“Sounds like a familiar theme for him.”

On Tuesday, the Biden campaign admitted the lifting of lines without attribution was a mistake.

“Several citations, some from sources cited in other parts of the plan, were inadvertently left out of the final version of the 22-page document,” the campaign told various news outlets.

“As soon as we were made aware of it, we updated to include the proper citations,” it added.

Biden’s plan included sentences identical to material from two environmental organizations, Blue Green Alliance and the Carbon Capture Coalition’s Center for Climate and Energy Solutions (C2ES), as a piece in HuffPo pointed out.

And fascinating but true: Some media writers do not want to refer to the Biden camp actions as blatant plagiarism, as Fox News noted.

“We’re supposed to be mad at Biden because he copied a few lines of his climate plan from environmental groups?” tweeted Michael Grunwald, a writer for Politico.

“That’s not ‘plagiarism.’ That’s ‘agreeing.’”

Separately, Trump is also commemorating the 75th anniversary of D-Day and the Normandy beach landings this week.

He wrote on Twitter, “As we approach the 75th Anniversary of D-Day, we proudly commemorate those heroic and honorable patriots who gave their all for the cause of freedom during some of history’s darkest hours.”
