On Tuesday afternoon, an “unstable situation” was unfolding at a Colorado school just outside of Denver, with reports of shots fired and multiple injuries, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said.

Eight students were reportedly injured in the incident; one has been reported as deceased.

The school was still being cleared at 5 p.m. Eastern time.

The incident occurred “at STEM school at Ridgeline and Plaza,” the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office tweeted.

Authorities responded at 1:53 p.m. local time to a “call of shots fired in school” — and deputies have been actively working on “identifying and locating shooter[s],” they added.
