House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said on Sunday she’s made some moves to buttress the safety of Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) after President Donald Trump shared a video on Twitter on Friday that showed the newly minted Democratic lawmaker appearing to wave away the terrorist attacks against America on 9/11.

Pelosi also insisted the president take down his tweet.

Other Democrats as well went after Trump for his social media message.

On Sunday the White House explained the president had a duty to point out Omar’s pattern of making comments that other people are finding offensive — and that in no way did he wish any “ill will” on Omar.

“The president is not trying to incite violence against anybody,” White House press secretary Sarah Sanders told anchor Chris Wallace of “Fox News Sunday.” “He’s actually speaking out against it. The question is, why isn’t the congresswoman — why is she brushing this off dismissively? She continues to make anti-Semitic comments over and over again, and Democrats refuse to call her out for it.  If she continues to do it, the president will continue to call her out, call her out by name, and he’s not going to be ashamed nor should he be.”

“The only shame I see in this is that Democrats and others aren’t standing up and taking the same hard line that the president is,” Sanders added. “That was one of the most horrific moments in American history, and for her to talk about it in such a dismissive way is frankly disgusting and abhorrent, and I’m glad the president is calling her out and holding her accountable for it.”

Pelosi’s statement on Sunday noted she’d spoken with congressional authorities “to ensure that Capitol Police are conducting a security assessment to safeguard Congresswoman Omar, her family and her staff.”

“They will continue to monitor and address the threats she faces,” the speaker said.

She added, “The president’s words weigh a ton, and his hateful and inflammatory rhetoric creates real danger … President Trump must take down his disrespectful and dangerous video.”

The video showed a clip from remarks Omar made recently to the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) during a speaking engagement.

Defending the organization, Omar said that CAIR was founded after Sept. 11, 2001, “because [the group] recognized that some people did something and that all of us were starting to lose access to our civil liberties.”

CAIR, in actuality, was formed in June of 1994.

At the same speaking engagement, Omar also said Muslims are treated like “second-class citizens” — and even encouraged them to stand up, “raise hell,” and “make people uncomfortable.”

The video that Trump tweeted also included news footage of the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center towers in lower Manhattan.

Trump captioned his tweet with: “WE WILL NEVER FORGET!”

But plenty of critics pointed out that Omar — by saying “some people did something” — was wrongly and infuriatingly underestimating the brutal destruction and evil killing in America of nearly 3,000 people on 9/11.

Later, the Minnesota Democrat tried to quote from then-President George W. Bush as a way of seemingly softening her words — Bush, days after 9/11, referenced the attackers as “people.”

“Certainly the president is wishing no ill will and certainly not violence toward anyone, but the president is absolutely and should be calling out the congresswoman for her not only one time but history of anti-Semitic comments,” Sanders also said over the weekend about Trump’s tweet.

Rather stunningly, Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-N.Y.) appeared to have no problems at all with the way Omar characterized the 9/11 attacks on the United States.

“I have had some problems with some of her other remarks, but not — but not with that one,” Nadler told CNN in an interview over the weekend.
