For most Christians and other traditionalists, the idea that marriage is between a man and a woman is sacred, notes the American Family Association (AFA), a pro-family group based in Tupelo, Mississippi.
“We’ve seen many large corporations reject that in their marketing, but I honestly never thought Walmart would join the cultural revolution and reject the beliefs of its customer base,” said Tim Wildmon, the AFA’s president, in a statement made available to LifeZette.

The ad he’s referring to is part of a recent campaign called “Love Is in the Aisle: A Dating Show at Walmart.”
An episode in the campaign features two gay men who go on a blind date.

In an alert to its nearly one million friends and supporters, the conservative group has urged those who want to communicate to Walmart to sign a petition, urging the retailer to remove the pro-gay video and remain neutral on such controversial cultural issues.
More than 112,000 people have signed the petition thus far, the AFA told LifeZette in a statement — and the group is confident that petition signatures will continue to rise.
“It’s clear that Walmart is on the path of elevating homosexual relationships to the same level as the male-female model of marriage,” Wildmon added in a statement.

“We have no choice but to ask our supporters to let the company know how customers feel about Walmart’s shift away from neutrality on this controversial issue to full support for same-sex relationships,” Wildmon also said.
AFA is suggesting three ways for concerned Americans to take action on the matter:
- Sign the AFA petition to Walmart president Doug McMillon.
- Contact Walmart headquarters, urge officials to remove the pro-gay video, and ask them to “remain neutral on controversial issues.”
- Share AFA’s information on the Walmart ad campaign with family, friends and church members.
Also in the video, when the two men first meet at Walmart, one of them exclaims, “Oh, my God, you’re handsome” — and the two men then hug, as CNSNews.com noted in a piece about the issue.
The American Family Association has taken a strong stance on other cultural issues in the recent past.
Last summer the group reached out to the attorney general’s office and urged it to open an investigation into the streaming service Netflix. The group believed Netflix was and is distributing child pornography in violation of federal law.
The AFA raised alarm bells over an Argentinian movie called “Desire,” which showed a nine-year-old girl simulating sex with a pillow, if one can believe it — including close-up shots of the girl’s face as she’s watched by an even younger girl, who is a mere seven years old.
