President Donald Trump has been especially critical of left-leaning late-night hosts this week.
The president took to Twitter on Wednesday to respond to an interview that former “Tonight Show” host Jay Leno gave “Today.”
The comedian said modern late-night hosts are too political and have lost the civility of the job.
“Jay Leno points out that comedy (on the very boring late night shows) is totally one-sided. It’s tough when there’s only one topic.” @foxandfriends Actually, the one-sided hatred on these shows is incredible and for me, unwatchable. But remember, WE are number one — president!” tweeted Trump in response.
Trump’s tweet earned responses from Jimmy Kimmel, Stephen Colbert and others.
Trump then took to Twitter on Thursday to continue criticizing modern late-night shows.
In his tweet, the president quoted television writer and producer Michael Loftus (“Anger Management,” “Kevin Can Wait”), a comedian who had recently criticized late-night television on an episode of Fox News’ “Fox & Friends.”

“The three very weak and untalented late-night ‘hosts’ are ‘fighting over table scraps. Carson did a great job, it wasn’t political. I don’t know what they’re going to do in 2024 when he’s no longer president? Will be wacky in the unemployment line.’ Michael Loftus,” tweeted Trump.

Colbert responded to the further criticisms on his show on Thursday night by sharing a “little correction” of the president’s tweet.
“First of all, sir, three?” Colbert said, responding to Trump’s tweet about the “three very weak and untalented late-night ‘hosts.'”
Colbert then went on to name more than three late-night hosts — many of whom are on cable channels.
“James Corden, Seth Meyers, Sam Bee, Trevor Noah, Conan, Desus & Mero are just as weak and untalented as me and the double Jim-Jims,” joked Colbert.
The comedian then said he would have a “parade” when the president left office, though that would be strange for the man whose entire career right now is centered on the presidency of Trump.
Colbert then gave a “little correction” of Trump’s tweet where he said, “WE are number one — president!”
“Little correction,” said Colbert. “WE are number one — ‘The Late Show.'”
