Former “Daily Show” host Jon Stewart has been an advocate for the 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund for years now.

The comedian recently made the rounds in interviews saying the Compensation Fund should be a funding priority for Congress.

“We don’t want the 9/11 community and the first responders to have their issue be swept under the rug or be ignored,” he recently told said on the Fox News program “America’s Newsroom.”

He added, “These are men and women who have suffered great illnesses because of their heroic work down on Ground Zero during 9/11 and during the months that passed, and they deserve our attention.”

The 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund announced recently that it’s low on funds and is cutting payments by a significant amount.

Stewart did his interviews while in D.C. to promote the Never Forget the Heroes Fund Act, a piece of bipartisan legislation that would make sure first responders and survivors injured on 9/11 will receive their full compensation.

One of the surprising things Stewart had to say while making his press rounds was that the Trump Justice Department is doing “an excellent job” in administering the 9/11 Compensation Fund.

Stewart has been a critic of the president in the past, but this seems to be an issue where both men agree.

President Donald Trump even recently retweeted a video of Stewart talking to the press about the 9/11 Compensation Fund and the current Justice Department.

Stewart praised 9/11 first responders not only for their heroic acts 18 years ago now, but also for their constant fight for proper health care and funding since that horrible day.

“It’s an embarrassment for our country,” Stewart says at one point about the men and women who need to fight so hard to be recognized and taken care of today.

Stewart then went bipartisan — and praised the Department of Justice under President Trump.

“Are the cameras on? Is everybody on me?” he joked before saying, “The Trump Justice Department is doing an excellent job administrating this program. The claims are going through faster and the awards are coming through.”

“The Trump Justice Department is doing an excellent job administrating this program.”

Stewart then jokingly tapped the microphone, knowing his praises likely surprised many who were listening.

He went on to praise the Trump Justice Department again while saying he would not “comment” on anything else related to the president.
