Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) championed identity politics over the weekend and claimed that society today conditions women “to act like white men.” She made her remarks during the South By Southwest event in Austin, Texas.

Ocasio-Cortez, one of the Democratic Party’s most high-profile progressive stars right now, answered questions from the audience during the festival. One woman wanted to know what advice Ocasio-Cortez would give “to young girls of color who want to get into politics.”

AOC, as she’s become known, launched into an explanation of how women of color must “stop trying to navigate systems of power.” Instead, she argued, they must “start building your own power.”

Ocasio-Cortez added, “There are so many subconscious forces that make us try to act like somebody else.”

“And — and we’re taught to like — like put our hair back, and be small, and — and articulate in a certain way, and you know, be square, and essentially try to — try to do an impression of power,” which uses “our subconscious signals to try to act like white men,” she said.

But “even if you’re producing the same result [or] the same quality of work, you are somehow seen as less than” others who aren’t women of color, the congresswoman insisted.

“So stop trying to navigate those systems because they weren’t built for you, and we need to build our own systems and recognize the other,” Ocasio-Cortez concluded.

This wasn’t the first time the freshman lawmaker made the odd claim that she and other women of color always felt the need to act like “white men.”

During an interview on the “Brave Not Perfect” podcast in February, Ocasio-Cortez said, “You think that’s how you have to move through the world and I found myself subconsciously doing that in high school and in college.”

“I felt like I need[ed] to write a certain way and talk a certain way … And like the things they like, and play golf,” Ocasio-Cortez said. “I didn’t see any women like me in positions of leadership … And so when you’re only seeing white dudes running the world, you think you need to act like a white dude to run the world.”

During the same event, the Democratic socialist also insisted that capitalism is “irredeemable.”

“We seek and prioritize profit and the accumulation of money above all else … above any human and environmental cost,” Ocasio-Cortez said. “To me, that ideology is unsustainable and it cannot be redeemed.”

“To me, capitalism is irredeemable,” she added.

She’s only been in Congress for two months — but Ocasio-Cortez has succeeded in pushing her party further to the Left.

Several 2020 Democratic presidential contenders even endorsed her radical Green New Deal climate change proposal, despite its staggering projected cost and requirement for a massive systemic overhaul.

Ocasio-Cortez also believes Democrats and Americans at large should listen to her because “I’m the boss” until politicians address climate change. She made that remark during a “Girls Who Code” event in New York City in February.

“So people are like, ‘Oh it’s unrealistic. Oh it’s vague. Oh it doesn’t address this little minute thing,'” Ocasio-Cortez said. “And I’m like, ‘You try. You do it. ‘Cause you’re not. ‘Cause you’re not. So, until you do it, I’m the boss.’ How about that?”
