Chris Pratt appears as a villainous character for the first time in his career in the new Western movie “The Kid.”
Now, the star is opening up about the experience and how director Vincent D’Onofrio helped him tap into his dark side.
The “Guardians of the Galaxy” star appeared on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” in which he talked about the new role, noting that he previously confided in D’Onofrio that he didn’t think he could play a bad guy in a movie.
“In my early career, if I tried to be bad, people would be like, ‘Oh he’s not really bad,’” Pratt told the host.
“And he was like, ‘Oh, I can make you bad.’ And I accepted the challenge.”
Pratt revealed that the former “Daredevil” star was so confident in his abilities to play a baddie that he thought of him first and foremost while adapting the script.
As for their working relationship, Pratt revealed to Kimmel that the notoriously stern director and actor lived up to his reputation on set.

He told a story in which someone on set suggested to D’Onofrio that he or she had an idea for a scene. The director shot the person down noting that this was his movie and that he didn’t care to waste time talking about other people’s ideas.
While it sounds harsh, Pratt noted that he thought D’Onofrio was right about the direction of the scene and noted that he loves him both personally and professionally.
“He is really direct,” Pratt said. “It’s in the word ‘director.’ You should be direct.”
“The Kid” stars Pratt, D’Onofrio, Ethan Hawke, Dane DeHaan, Jake Schur and Adam Baldwin.
