Hillary Clinton and 2020 Democratic presidential candidates are escalating their wild rhetoric against President Donald Trump and “stoking division” because they know they can’t get many Americans “to vote for their ideas.” That was the view of former Secret Service agent and conservative commentator Dan Bongino on Monday night on Fox News’ “The Ingraham Angle.”
Clinton, who lost her 2016 presidential bid against Trump in a stunning upset, spoke on Sunday in Selma, Alabama, to commemorate the 54th anniversary of “Bloody Sunday” and to honor the Civil Rights Movement.
Clinton claimed the U.S. is facing a “full-fledged crisis in our democracy” because Trump is in the White House.
“This is a time, my friends, when fundamental rights, civic virtue, freedom of the press, the rule of law, truth, facts and reason are under assault,” Clinton declared.
Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.), a 2020 presidential hopeful, told “CBS This Morning” on Monday that Trump’s presidency has been “devastating” because it has caused “such darkness.”
“President Trump has created such divisions, such darkness, such hate, and we need someone who can restore what has been lost, that moral integrity, that leadership in the world,” Gillibrand insisted.
Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), another 2020 presidential hopeful who lost the 2016 Democratic nomination to Clinton, claimed during a campaign event in Brooklyn on Saturday that Trump is always plotting to “divide us.”
“Donald Trump wants to divide us up based on the color of our skin, based on where we were born, based on our gender, our religion, and our sexual orientation,” Sanders warned. “What we are about is doing exactly the opposite: We are going to bring our people together.”
Fox News host and commentator Jesse Watters, substituting for Laura Ingraham on “The Ingraham Angle,” said these Democrats are “deploying the politics of hate to try to win the White House in 2020.” Watters said “they know they can’t beat Trump on policy at all.”
“This is what they’re calling a ‘crisis’ — not the influx of illegal immigrants rushing across the border. No,” Watters said. “What constitutes a crisis to Democrats is an actual made-up scenario of Trump creating ‘darkness.'”
Bongino said there’s a “tactical reason” Democrats are doing this.
“They understand that their ideas only appeal to a limited portion of radicals — high taxes, government controlled health care, a monopoly on public education,” Bongino said. “So what did they do, Jesse? They knew they couldn’t get you to vote for their ideas, so they decided to paint Republicans as racists — hoping you would just vote against them and that maybe they’d get a majority once in a while.”

“But they’re the ones stoking division — not Republicans,” said Bongino.
Civil rights attorney and radio talk show host Leo Terrell vehemently disagreed. He argued there is a “new type of racism” under Trump.
“What Hillary and Bernie were saying was that Donald Trump has polarized this country so bad[ly] on issues of race, his hatred,” Terrell insisted.
But Bongino pointed out that “there has never been an allegation that Donald Trump was a racist until he ran for president as a Republican.”
Watters called Clinton’s correlation of the Trump era and Selma inappropriate.
“You guys are coming unglued because this president is fixing the country for us.”
“I mean, they had, you know, armed federal agents going down to beat up black people back then. That’s not happening now,” Watters said. “I think that [correlation] trivialized what really happened in the 60s.”
Conservative activist and syndicated columnist Star Parker argued that Democrats “divided us a long time ago.”
“They started about 50 years ago. They segmented us into all … and Donald Trump is bringing us all together. He’s fixing everything for everyone. And they hate it,” Parker said. “They’re coming totally unglued.”
“Selma is an example of the Left trying to take advantage of a point in history that has solved itself. We are more united as a grassroots community of people. It’s only the fringe of the Democrats. And so they’ll try to stir up anything,” Parker added, telling Terrell that “you guys are coming unglued because this president is fixing the country for us.”
