President Donald Trump slammed former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe as a “disgrace to our country” on Thursday after excerpts from McCabe’s upcoming interview on CBS News’ “60 Minutes” circulated.

McCabe (pictured above left) oversaw the FBI’s investigation into 2016 Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server as secretary of state.

Former Attorney General Jeff Sessions fired McCabe in March 2018 — just two days before he was set to retire with a pension.

Sessions fired McCabe upon the recommendation of the FBI’s Office of Professional Responsibility (OPR) after it determined McCabe had “lacked candor” while under oath.

“Disgraced FBI Acting Director Andrew McCabe pretends to be a ‘poor little angel’ when in fact he was a big part of the Crooked Hillary Scandal & the Russia Hoax — a puppet for Leakin’ James Comey. I.G. report on McCabe was devastating. Part of ‘insurance policy’ in case I won….” Trump tweeted.

“Many of the top FBI brass were fired, forced to leave, or left,” Trump added.

“McCabe’s wife received BIG DOLLARS from Clinton people for her campaign — he gave Hillary a pass. McCabe is a disgrace to the FBI and a disgrace to our Country. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”

Clips from McCabe’s interview with CBS News’ Scott Pelley dropped on Thursday.

McCabe briefly served as acting FBI director after Trump abruptly fired James Comey in May 2017. McCabe played a key role in the investigations into obstruction of justice and Trump’s ties to Russia.

He also wrote memos summarizing his conversations with Trump during those crucial days.

“I was very concerned that I was able to put the Russia case on absolutely solid ground, in an indelible fashion,” McCabe told Pelley. “That were I removed quickly, or reassigned or fired, that the case could not be closed or vanish in the night without a trace.”

“I wanted to make sure that our case was on solid ground and if somebody came in behind me and closed it and tried to walk away from it, they would not be able to do that without creating a record of why they made that decision,” McCabe also told CBS.

McCabe said it “troubled me greatly” that Trump “might have” won the 2016 presidential election “with the aid of the government of Russia, our most formidable adversary on the world stage.”

But both Republicans and Democrats on the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence revealed over the last several days that they have yet to find any evidence of direct collusion between Trump and Russian officials.

The committee’s two-year-long investigation included interviews with over 200 witnesses and reviews of hundreds of thousands of pages of documents.

Pelley said Thursday on “CBS This Morning” that McCabe said there “were meetings at the Justice Department at which it was discussed whether the vice president and a majority of the Cabinet could be brought together to remove the president of the United States under the 25th Amendment.”

“These were the eight days from Comey’s firing to the point that Robert Mueller was appointed special counsel,” Pelley added. “And the highest levels of American law enforcement were trying to figure out what do with the president.”

McCabe also disputed Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein’s claim that he had joked about wearing a wire while speaking with the president.

McCabe said the topic “came up more than once and it was so serious that he took it to the lawyers at the FBI to discuss it,” Pelley said.

Rosenstein again denied the allegation on Thursday, calling it “inaccurate and factually incorrect.”

The Atlantic also published excerpts from McCabe’s forthcoming book, “The Threat,” on Thursday.

“I wrote memos about my interactions with President Trump for the same reason that Comey did: to have a contemporaneous record of conversations with a person who cannot be trusted,” McCabe wrote.

McCabe insisted that he played a significant role in persuading Rosenstein to appoint a special counsel to oversee the Russia probe.

“If I got nothing else done as acting director, I had done the one thing I needed to do,” McCabe wrote.

White House press secretary Sarah Sanders said in a statement to Fox News on Thursday that “Andrew McCabe was fired in total disgrace from the FBI because he lied to investigators on multiple occasions, including under oath.”

“His selfish and destructive agenda drove him to open a completely baseless investigation into the president,” Sanders added. ”His actions were so shameful that he was referred to federal prosecutors. Andrew McCabe has no credibility and is an embarrassment to the men and women of the FBI and our great country.”

Senate Committee on the Judiciary Chairman Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) demanded that McCabe testify before the committee as a result of Thursday’s news.

“After Mr. McCabe’s ’60 Minutes’ interview, it is imperative that he, and others, come before @senjudiciary to fully explain how and why a FISA warrant was issued against Carter Page and answer questions about what appears to be, now more than ever, bias against President Trump,” Graham tweeted.
