House Speaker Nancy Pelosi vowed that come February 15, the deadline for funding the federal government, House and Senate lawmakers would work out a deal to avoid another government shutdown.

Pelosi engaged in a half-hour interview with Politico on Wednesday, confidently predicting there would not be a shutdown, even as President Donald Trump continues to dig his heels in on demands for funding a wall at the southern border.

“There will not be another shutdown,” she insisted.

“No, it’s not going to happen.”

Her prediction leans more toward the notion that Republican lawmakers wouldn’t dare risk another political beating after the first shutdown showdown, rather than knowledge of a pending deal.

“I have a club that I started, it’s called the ‘Too Hot to Handle Club,'” she apparently joked.

“And this is a too-hot-to-handle issue.”

Still no wall? Pelosi insisted there are a variety of issues she’d be willing to compromise with the president on — lowering prescription drug prices, protecting people with pre-existing conditions, and rebuilding infrastructure — except the border wall.

“She remains firm that there won’t be new money for Trump’s wall,” Politico reports.

This, as a bipartisan panel negotiating on border security currently endeavors to hammer out a deal.

Meanwhile, another Politico report suggests that Democrats and Republicans are closing in on a deal that would “likely … provide funding for technology and fencing on the southern border.”

Rep. Lucille Roybal Allard (D-Calif.) said it would be “unrealistic” not to give Trump some funding for a physical barrier, though reports suggest any new deal would involve less than his requested $5.7 billion.

Praying for Trump. While the rest of the nation is praying that Democrat lawmakers will come to their senses and fund a much-needed border wall to protect Americans and legal immigrants, Pelosi claims she’s praying for something else: President Trump.

“I pray for him all the time,” Pelosi said.

“And I say to him, ‘Mr. President, I would never ask you to do anything that is not in your interest.'”

Maybe worry about what’s in the interest of the American people for a change?
