Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) fired off a tweet on Thursday morning after she faced online backlash connected to a billboard prominently displayed in New York City’s Times Square.

The billboard’s message mocks the role the congresswoman played in chasing away Amazon from New York City.

The Job Creators Network (JCN), a small business advocacy group, installed the message on the Times Square billboard on Wednesday. The message, to be displayed for one week, is called, “AMAZON PULLOUT: Thanks For Nothing, AOC!”

The congresswoman (pictured above left) often goes by the initials “AOC.”

Amazon’s retreat is costing New York City 25,000 lost jobs, $4 billion in lost wages, and $12 billion in lost economic activity, the billboard noted.

“The Amazon pullout is a perfect example of what we’ve been saying: Socialism takes and capitalism creates,” Alfredo Ortiz, JCN’s president and CEO, said in a statement about it on Wednesday.

“The economic consequences of the HQ2 termination give America a small taste of the harm that is to come if Ocasio-Cortez’s anti-business canon comes to fruition and is made federal policy,” he also said.

Amazon originally planned to build half of its second headquarters in New York City.

But the company stunned the nation last week when officials announced they were giving up on a location in Queens, New York City, because of the opposition from state and local politicians.

Amazon had chosen the Long Island City neighborhood of Queens to build a $2.5 billion campus that could house 25,000 workers, in addition to new offices planned for northern Virginia.

Ocasio-Cortez was the most high-profile opponent of Amazon’s New York City plans.

On Wednesday, Fox News host Laura Ingraham tweeted a photo of the billboard, writing, “Check out the sign in Times Sq.! ⁦Thanks to @JobCreatorsUSA⁩!”

Ocasio-Cortez wrote on Twitter on Thursday, “Few things effectively communicate the power we’ve built in fighting dark money & anti-worker policies like billionaire-funded groups blowing tons of cash on wack billboards (this one is funded by the Mercers). (PS fact that it’s in Times Sq tells you this isn’t for/by NYers.)”

The Mercer family, led by billionaire Robert Mercer, supports a number of conservative causes.

It’s drawn the ire of many liberals.

Ocasio-Cortez added, “Billionaires paying to put up anti-progressive propaganda in Times Square is like the obscenely rich version of the scene where Michael Scott points to the Bubba Gump and saying ‘This is it, this is the heart of civilization, right here.'”

JCN’s Ortiz responded to the congresswoman’s criticism in a statement on Thursday.

“Facts are facts: While the Job Creators Network did spend some money highlighting the economic consequences of the Amazon pullout, Ocasio-Cortez deprived New York of 25,000 new jobs and $4 billion in annual wages,” Ortiz said. “She can call us out all she wants about how we spend our money, but it’s clear that most people care more about how she spends theirs,” he added.

The congresswoman has gone on the defensive in trying to explain her opposition to Amazon.

Among other attacks, she faced indirect criticism from New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) and direct criticism from Jodi Seth, Amazon’s head of policy communications.

“There was little in the fuzzy proposal that guaranteed jobs for actual NYers, yet lots of hard concessions from the public,” she tweeted on Tuesday. “Queens saw how the FoxConn/Wisconsin disaster is working out — a $4.5 billion nightmare — & asked Qs. The response? ‘This is above you, you won’t get it.'”
