A Kentucky couple who support President Donald Trump got quite a scare over the weekend when a man allegedly pulled a gun on them for wearing Make America Great Again hats.

James Michael Phillips was arrested after the incident, according to BuzzFeed News.

Terry Pierce told Buzzfeed News that he and his wife, Cherrie, were shopping at a Sam’s Club in Bowling Green, Kentucky. While they were waiting in the checkout line, a man flipped them off.

Phillips admitted to police that that he insulted the couple with his hand gesture “solely for wearing the hats.”

Cherrie Pierce asked Phillips, “Excuse me, did you just flip us off?”

“Yes, I did because of those hats,” Phillips responded, according to the couple.

Terry Pierce said he then chased Phillips and told him, “Buddy, it goes both ways.”

That’s when things got scary.

‘Good day for you to die.’ According to Terry Pierce, Phillips pulled a gun on him and said, “It is a good day for you to die.”

Then, according to the police report, Phillips directed his comments toward Cherrie Pierce, saying, “It’s a good day for you to die, b***.”

No shots were fired and Phillips eventually put his gun back in its holster.

Surveillance cameras did not capture the event because it took place out of camera range. Police found a 40-caliber Glock on Phillips’s person, for which he has a Tennessee-issued concealed carry permit.

Phillips was charged with first-degree wanton endangerment.

The Pierces couldn’t believe the confrontation even happened.

“Nobody is going to tell me I don’t have the right to believe in America and my president,” Terry Pierce told Buzzfeed News.

Where’s the mainstream media? While — thankfully — no one was hurt, compare this event with that of actor Jussie Smollett, who made national headlines recently by claiming he was assaulted by men in MAGA hats yelling racial slurs.

As police pressed further, Smollett’s story began to fall apart and police now appear to believe he orchestrated the incident as a publicity stunt.

Two men have come forward saying Smollett paid them to beat him up.

Still, this story made national headlines, with liberals and celebrities lining up to denounce Trump for supposedly fostering an attitude that encourages such violence.

What about stories like that of the Pierces?

If a man in a Trump hat pulled a gun on someone, you can bet that story would dominate the headlines — and yet this incident, in which two of the president’s supporters were physically threatened for their political beliefs, is something most Americans will remain unaware of.

The double standard is unreal. So is the political divide that fosters such imbalance.

Terry Pierce told Buzzfeed News he was “blown away” by how divided the country has become. To say the least.
